Lumbini , the hallowed birthplace of Siddhartha Gautam and the ultimate Budhha – the enlightened one, the fountain of world peace, lies in Rupendehi district in southern – terai, Nepal. It is 315 km far from Kathmandu and takes 8-9 hours by bus. It is believed that Mayadevi – the spouse of Shakya king Suddodhan – gave birth to Siddhartha near Puskarini pond in the middle of Sal forest on the day of Baisakh Purnima (Full Moon Day) in 623 B.C. Buddhists’ literatures mention that the newly born Siddhartha took seven steps and uttered epoch making message to the suffering humanity immediately after his birth.
