We begin the Mera peak climbing trip via the remote region of Panch Pokhara in the Hinku valley to Khare. To make the summit day shorter and more enjoyable, we set our high camp at 5800 meters on a rocky shelf behind a sizeable vertical rock. It provides some degree of shelter. The panoramic view seen from our Mera High Camp is genuinely breathtaking and probably one of the best of its kind. Ultimately the climbing summit day starts early in the morning. We approach the Mere peak by the northern route. Mainly it involves a gradual climb with an outstanding mountain panorama always in sight.
The view from the summit is one of the finest in the Himalayas on this trekking peak climbing trip. Indeed five spectacular 8000-meter peaks are visible. Mt. Everest (8848 m), Cho – Oyu (8201 m), Lhotse (8516 m), Makalu (8463 m), Kanchenjunga (8586 m) as well as Nuptse (7855 m), and Chamlang (7319 m) – incomparable vista.
Mera Peak’s journey with the Peak Climbing Nepal team lasts 18 eventful days. This expedition starts by leaving the historic city and the capital of Nepal, Kathmandu for Lukla. We will arrive at Lukla after 35 minutes of scenic air travel from Kathmandu. Soon after arriving in Lukla, you will trek up to Chhuthang on the first day of the tour.
Then you will leave for Thuli Kharka(4300m) via a captivating Zatrawala Pass. After an overnight stay in the Thuli Kharka, your trek runs towards Kothe. From Kothe, you will leave at early morning to reach Thangnak(4326m). After making up to Thangnak and spending a night there, your next destination will be Khare.
The land of Khare provides the glimpses of soon to be climbed, Mera Peak. You will reach Khare for an overnight stay, but there will be one more day in the Khare for acclimatization. This means you will spend two nights staying in Khare before heading for Mera Base Camp(5300m). Your Himalayan trail has started from the base camp of Mera peak, and it will move to Mera High Camp(5,700m) and then to the top of Mera Peak(6,476m).
After the successful summit of Mera peak, you will descend back to the Khare for the night stay on the very day. You will then retrace the earlier trails to return Lukla. On this stretch, you will cross Khare, Kothe, Thuli Kharka, and Lukla in several days. Your last night in the Khumbu region will be at Lukla just one-night before the Kathmandu flight.
Thereafter, you will fly one last time through the Khumbu’s skies to trace back Kathmandu. Soon after landing in Kathmandu, your Mera Peak Climbing expedition with us will end.
You will be carrying all of your gear and share some of the cluster gear. Keeping your pack light is important, so choose lightweight clothing and equipment. Be sure to have a range of clothing suitable for all conditions. A sudden change of weather may require layering of clothing. Three layers will meet your needs. Avoid cotton or fabrics that do not maintain heat when cold. Comfortable durable wool (or proven fabrics) that breathe and expel sweat lends itself to an additional pleasant experience!’
We will offer complimentary water and a windproof duffle that you’ll use on the trek – carried by porters. The duffle is yours to keep once at the end of the trek. You can safely leave your bag, together with your non-trekking requirements, at our office in Katmandu and collect them upon your return.
All equipment, such as base camp tents, room accessories, climbing rope, ice screws, snow bar and ice hammer is provided by Sherpa Expedition & Trekking.
